How To Dry Morels In A Dehydrator?

The best way to dry your morels is to do it with a dehydrator.

Indeed, to properly dehydrate your morels in your dehydrator, opt for a low temperature of around 113 °F for around 7 hours! However, it will be advisable to check the drying of the morels every 2 hours on your grid and add time if the drying is not finished! Adapt this time according to the quantity of morels you have! The morel must be light and dry but not crumbly!

Finally, keep in mind that good drying is done at low temperatures and over time! Because drying your morels quickly would involve high temperatures which would cook and damage the morels.

But if you don’t have a dehydrator, what should you do?

How To Dry Morels In The Oven?

To dry your morels in the oven, it’s the same with the dehydrator. The only problem with the oven is that the temperatures never drop below 122 °F. In addition, it will be necessary to use an oven that has good ventilation to properly evacuate humidity.

Ideally the oven should be set to 122° F for less than 6 hours.

How Long To Dehydrate Morel Mushrooms?

As you have understood, the drying time depends on several parameters including the drying temperature and the ventilation. If your dehydrator or oven is capable of drying at 113 °F with good ventilation, you can consider a drying time of 7 hours to be good.

However, this time may change depending on the quantity of morels and the quality of your dehydrator/oven.

Don’t hesitate to check the texture of your morels every hour to find out if they have finished drying.

How To Store Dried Morels ?

Place your morels in airtight glass jars and close the jars!

Then open your jars 1 hour per day for 7 days to release residual moisture.

How Long Will Dried Morels Last?

If your morels are kept in airtight jars, and these jars are in a cool, dark place, then your dried morels can be kept for more than 2 years if you can keep them that long… 😉

How To Rehydrate Dried Morels?

To rehydrate your morels, nothing could be simpler: place your morels in a small bowl, pour hot water over them, and wrap everything in film for 20 minutes. Then collect the rehydrated morels and baste regularly with the rehydration juice during cooking.
