Do you want to plan a Porcini mushroom hunting, but you don’t know how long do Porcini take to grow? You’ve come to the right place!
Find out everything you need to know about the growing time of these mushrooms. Here we go!
How Does A Porcini Grow?
First of all, you should know this mushroom is just the fruiting part of the mycelium that is permanently under the ground. This fruiting will be triggered by dynamic conditions (humidity, temperature, nutrient availability, etc.) which will allow the Porcini to emerge from the ground. But how does a Porcini actually grow?
At the beginning, there is the mycelium which, after a complex fusion process, will give rise to a knot. This node will in turn give a primordia. This is the baby Porcini that comes out of the ground in its most juvenile form. Then, the mushroom will develop little by little: its stem will widen and soar, its cap will form and spread out. Then, as an adult, the mushroom will sporulate in order to ensure its reproduction… And the life cycle of the Porcini continues… It’s beautiful, isn’t it?

Do Porcini Mushrooms Grow Overnight?
No, it does not grow overnight. It is simply impossible. In fact, it is only an impression that some pickers have when they return to their spot and find again mushrooms that they had not seen the first time…
In addition, here is an interesting video that shows the evolution of a King Bolete, day by day. Initially, we see a small mushroom of 3 or 4 days old, then we notice that it reaches adulthood after 7 more days. Finally, we notice that it begins to decline the following days…
How Long Does It Take For A Porcini To Grow?
Between fruiting (the primordia) and full maturity, it takes a dozen days. In addition, the growth rate of this mushroom can vary from 7 to 20 days depending on the following two parameters:
- Humidity: this parameter is decisive in the growth of the boletus. In fact, Porcini need moisture to grow! Don’t forget that mushrooms in general, are made up of more than 90% water. In this way, you will avoid areas that are too windy which tend to dry out the earth and the air.
- The temperature: this is the second parameter to take into account to estimate the Porcini growth time. The higher the temperature (within a certain limit), the faster the boletus will grow.
