How Do You Identify A Charcoal Burner Mushroom?

This one is an excellent mushroom! But it is not always easy to identify, because it can take quite different shades of color.

  • Cap: the texture of the cap is slightly greasy with hues ranging from gray to purple to green. This is clearly not a very decisive criterion for this species.
  • Gills: the gills are white and do not break when touched, they remain flexible. This gills leave a greasy feeling on the fingers, we then speak of lardaceous gills. This is a determining criterion.
  • Stem: the stem is fleshy and has no volva or ring.
  • Flesh: the flesh is white and brittle like chalk.
  • Habitat: it tends to be found in acid areas.

Charcoal Burner Look Alikes

  • With other mushrooms from the Russula genus: this one can be confused with other russula. The determining criterion will be the texture of the gills. Brittle for the other Russules, oily and flexible for the Charcoal Burner.
  • With other genus: Amanita, Lactarius… Be very careful!

Charcoal Burner Mushroom Recipe

Ingredients

  • A handful of Charcoal Burners.
  • A dab of olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Chopped parsley

Steps

  1. Fry your mushrooms in olive oil in a pan. Brown them over high heat and turn them several times so that they cook all over and take on a beautiful golden color. Cooking should last 7 to 8 minutes.
  2. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to your preparation and continue cooking for 1 minute.
  3. Serve your mushrooms in a nice plate and add a small amount of chopped parsley.
  4. It’s ready! Enjoy!
