This mushroom is a beautiful blue mushroom, which belongs to the Lepista family. And whose Latin name is Lepista nuda.

Yes, these mushrooms are excellent edibles! Nevertheless, you must cook them well and consume them in small quantities because they do not appeal to everyone.

What Do Wood Blewits Taste Like?

Their taste is fruity and slightly acidic.

How To Preserve Wood Blewits?

  • Fresh: it can be kept for up to 5 days in the fridge.
  • Frozen: the ideal is to cook it before freezing it. (like most mushrooms)
  • Dried: it can be dried. In this case, it must be cut into slices, placed on a rack at 113 °F for 8 hours. It is also possible to dry it in the open air, but this will take several days and it will be necessary to keep an eye on it.

The blue foot can be confused with cortinarius, for example. The risk of confusion is significant, unless you carefully check the following criteria:

  • Cap: It is very smooth and measures between 2 and 6 inch in diameter. It is blue to pale purple in color and its margin (edge) is rolled up.
  • Gills: they are adnate, and almost identical in color to the cap .
  • Stem: the stem is pruinose (whitish trace) of a pale blue color.
  • Flesh: its flesh is white with blue tints.
  • Smell: strong and fruity, slightly aniseed.

Want to know how to eat the Lepista nuda? This is the best way to cook and prepare your mushrooms!

  1. Clean and cut 100 g of Lepista nuda into strips.
  2. Fry your mushrooms in a little fat for 10 minutes, adding crushed garlic and a pinch of chives.
  3. Break an egg, beat the egg whites until stiff and reserve the yolk.
  4. Mix 3 tablespoons of thick cream with your egg yolk and 15 g of cheese.
  5. Mix your cream with your mushrooms, then gently add your beaten egg whites while mixing gently.
  6. Pour the preparation into a gratin dish and bake at 400 °F for 12 minutes.
  7. You can be proud of yourself !
